- Spends the majority of the time in the field assisting with staff supervision, completing field reports (documenting and correcting unsatisfactory work conditions), evaluating staff performance (safety, efficiency, and effectiveness), and providing timely performance feedback.
- Assists the Field Services Supervisor with hiring, training, and developing the department's frontline talent including Field Service Workers, Heavy Equipment Operators, and Truck Operators. Includes assisting with performance management, training facilitation, disciplinary action, and team building.
- Promotes a culture of safety among team members by modeling and reinforcing safe practices. Completes regular safety audits, trains staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs), and educates new staff. Assists with the development of SOPs and training materials.
- Assists with the short-term planning, scheduling, and coordination of staff, equipment, and other resources required to complete Solid Waste's operational requirements.
- Prioritizes jobs and makes assignments to team members; recommends and provides training to new employees
- Delivers frequent feedback to all members of staff, routinely communicates results to the Field Services Supervisor.
- Assists with oversight of pre/post-trip inspections. Ensures employees are capable of carrying out their duties each day. Verifies that all equipment is in good working order and needed maintenance and repairs are performed immediately.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and SOPs. Regularly communicates expectations to team members and monitors work environment to ensure the appropriate policies and procedures are followed.
- Responds to escalated citizen requests/disputes relating to refuse, recycling, bulky items and yard waste
- Performs the duties of the Field Services Supervisor or the SW Truck Operator as required by operational needs and staffing conditions
- This position will interact with customers which will include promoting the department and addressing customer needs
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance, including working on call as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Five years of experience in the solid waste industry
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers
- Ability to effectively follow safety rules and regulations
- Ability to understand complicated procedures, plans, and equipment operation manuals
- Ability to perform physical tasks in all kinds of weather
- Ability to use a computer, to assist the supervisor as directed
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" CDL driver's license prior to employment
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
