    Description

    The Animal Lab Technician I is responsible for conducting routine and specialized tasks related to the care of experimental animals. Observes animals for abnormalities, provides animal care, maintains cage hygiene, facility cleanliness, and environmental monitoring. Also, supports clinical staff in animal handling and restraint.



    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assists with feeding, watering, handling, and enclosure maintenance for all species in the vivarium facilities.
    • Monitors and records animal room environments, following instructions for providing specialized diets and medicated water.
    • Operates cage washers, autoclave, and other equipment for animal care.
    Uses pressure washer and floor scrubber for secondary enclosure sanitation.

    • Provides care for immunocompromised animals, biohazardous materials, and follows SOP's related to biohazardous agents.
    • Recognizes abnormalities in laboratory animals and reports promptly.
    • Handles animal cage card documentation, assists with animal deliveries, and supports breeding programs.
    • Operates department vehicles as needed.
    • Comprehends and follows SOP's for the husbandry of animals.


    Qualifications

    Education:
    High School Diploma/GED Required Minimum

    Work Experience:
    1 Year Experience - Preferred

    License/Certification:
    Assistant Laboratory Animal Tech (ALAT) - Preferred
