Position Summary:


Nickol Global Solutions (NGS) seeks a versatile Director to lead and expand its growing Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) portfolio.

Based at the NGS home office, the Director will supervise NGS's current project activities and be the strategic and thought leader on new business opportunities.

The Director is responsible for developing and executing a strategy that leverages NGS's expertise and positions the organization for continued growth in the sector with a focus on implementation of high-quality programming designed to promote human rights and democratic governance and to improve transparent and responsive governance outcomes, setting the stage for peace and more inclusive, sustainable development.

The Director will supervise home office and field-based staff, providing technical leadership and actively mentoring and supporting the professional development of her/his staff.

Further, the Director will represent NGS externally, expanding the organization's visibility and participation in DRG programming and related sectors.

The Director will have a master's degree in a relevant field and at least ten (10) years of experience supporting donor-funded international development projects in the sector.


NGS staff are expected to work in person three days per week from our Alexandria, VA headquarters.

Duties:


Project Management (40%)

  • Oversees performance of assigned programs and fulfillment of project deliverables with optimal levels of quality and compliance.
  • Ensures that all assigned projects meet financial targets and manage funds judiciously, in full compliance with NGS's operational and financial standards.
  • Builds relations with key stakeholders, including partners, subcontractors, local governments and civic actors, donors, and clients.
  • Ensures field/project teams have any required technical support (directly providing technical assistance within key subsectors and overseeing technical consultants).
  • Collaborates with other organizational units to effectively support program implementation and address operational and programmatic questions and challenges.
  • Oversees relationships with prime contractors and subcontractors, including performance and financial management.
  • Frames and oversees the production of project reports, and other material such as success stories, interventions, and innovations.
  • Leads project learning and crossproject, datadriven adaptation in line with NGS's learning agenda.

New Business Development (40%)

  • Oversees capture efforts for new business. Frames and leads pertinent new business development endeavors in the DRG sectors and related areas, including serving as technical lead and/or contributing writer. May oversee or conduct field assessments to identify appropriate business development opportunities or conduct capture on qualified bids.
  • Engages actively with donors, private sector, humanitarian and development organizations, and the implementing partner community.
  • Leads or contributes significantly to proposal efforts from capture to submission.
  • Develops partnerships that help to grow NGS's programming.
  • Identifies new business opportunities to expand NGS's client base.

Leadership (20%)

  • Demonstrates inclusive behaviors and leadership consistent with NGS values.
  • Supervises field and home officebased staff, managing performance and providing mentoring, coaching and training for staff.
  • Leads efforts to track, analyze, and share trends and innovations in the PST sector.
  • Contributes to knowledge capture and dissemination of key learnings via articles, conference proceedings, social media, and white papers.
  • Develops sectoral product lines and promotes innovation, and improved methodologies, products, and implementation through the Collaborating, Learning, & Adapting (CLA) approach.
  • Encourages and facilitates participation of staff in technical workshops, conferences, and working groups.
  • Actively promotes effective collaboration and cooperation across business units and teams.
  • Contributes to the NGS learning agenda.

Requirements:


Required Experience and Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of experience with demonstrated progressive responsibility in staff and program management, including USAID and other donor agencies, and proposal and budget development experience.

This experience should be inclusive of:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in a fieldbased (or fieldfacing) role delivering technical assistance, managing field operations, or an equivalent field role.
  • At least four (4) of supervisory experience, including management of incountry teams.
  • At least five (5) years providing technical assistance in peacebuilding, stabilization, and/or transition programming, with a demonstrated understanding of best practices and emerging approaches in the sector.
