- Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to take new building components and systems from initial concept development through to successful product launches
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop system level technical specifications and optimization criteria including user experience, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, deployment time, and operational costs
- Develop detailed design of components and assemblies including sheet metal, structural metals, insulation systems, sealing methods, and other components, with hands on prototyping
- Perform structural and thermal analysis, tolerance stack up analysis, validation, and reliability testing before releasing designs for production,
- Conduct DFM reviews with internal fabrication team and suppliers, and create high quality drawing packages and manufacturing instructions
- Provide production support to identity root cause and resolve manufacturing issues
- Travel to support build activities (supplier visits, manufacturing factories, installs, etc.)
- BS/MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 3-5 years of mechanical design, construction industry (including prefab/modular construction, building component design, facade design, or other related field) highly preferred
- Proficiency in CAD modeling (NX, Solidworks, or Onshape preferred)
- Strong engineering fundamentals with an understanding of construction methods and materials
- Experience working with fabrication shops for quick, iterative prototype evaluation. Three axis machining, metal fabrication, welding or woodworking experience is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative approach to design
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and building codes

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be an integral part of the product engineering team, responsible for the development of current and future Samara factory built construction products. You will work closely with architects, structural engineers, and other cross-functional teams to create cutting-edge solutions that leverage practices from high-volume product design to bring high quality homes and products to our customers.
