Good Shepherd Lutheran School is currently seeking a Music Teacher/Band Director for a position teaching instrumental music (band) to students in grades 4-8.

Education and experience in musical basics are required to plan and rehearse band activities.

The Music Teacher/Band Director is responsible for providing instruction, leadership, and supervision to students in music classes at both the elementary and middle school levels.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A BA/BS degree in music
  • A valid California teaching credential preferred
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience preferred
  • The ability to work well in a Christian school setting

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning and implementing a program of instruction and lesson plans
  • Prepare students for school concerts and planned music experiences
  • Supervise band program and adhere to the student behavior code as described in the student/parent handbook
  • Publish basic rules for proper student participation in band activities to be published in the handbook
  • Maintain school instruments, music, and equipment and facilitated repair services when needed. Maintain and keep updated on the instrumental music library.
  • Coordinate publicity for band activities, notifying proper staff members of all activities scheduled.
  • Oversee the correct forms for all afterschool group activities and submit them correctly to the appropriate staff member for the use of buildings and transportation needed for practices or activities.
  • Prepare the bands to play at various school events throughout the year, including but not limited to Christmas Chapel, Art & Music Night, etc.
  • Participate in collaborating and planning with the staff
  • Maintain accurate student records, including the utilization of RenWeb (online grading program) to post assignments and grades
  • Communicate effectively with parents and the school community
  • Attend staff meetings and other school events as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Complete professional development (growth hours) as required
