Position Overview:
Performs clerical and receptionist duties and assists in maintaining the physical environment of the nursing station.
- Adheres to hospital department policies and procedures, objectives, CQI program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Completes the annual safety module and demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures: fire, disaster, codes, etc.
- Schedules procedures. Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.
- Utilizes problem solving process when appropriate.
- Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer and death.
- Keeps patient records current. Prepares periodic reports as required.
- Transcribes physician's orders as written utilizing MS4 system.
- Completes logs and records promptly, recording all information that could be pertinent to others.
- Retrieves and organizes appropriate data from records as required.
- Enters charges as assigned.
- Photocopies and files information, answers the phone, takes messages and directs calls promptly and courteously.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital and/or nursing standards.
- Handles phone calls with courtesy and respect for confidentiality.
- Filing, faxing and copying is completed within timeframe request or prioritized with manager.
- Directs patients and families to appropriate department in a courteous manner.
- Interacts with patients and families in various age groups. (Pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics)
EDUCATION
- _ Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma._
- HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
- Other: Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
- 2 years secretarial in a health care setting preferred
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Answer telephones
- Maintain filing systems
- Maintain logs
- Maintain patient charts
- Schedule appointments
- Excellent communication skills, written & verbal
- Ability to prioritize work
- Demonstrates tact, maturity and good judgment
