    Job Description


    Responsibilities

    The Risk Manager is responsible for risk management activities at the assigned facility or facilites, including, but not limited to, assisting departmental leadership with investigation and analysis of adverse events, patient safety reports and security reports. The position also assists in the management of liability claims against Norton Healthcare entities or employees, with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the organization's assets and promote optimum levels of patient safety and quality service in the delivery of healthcare.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Responsible for promoting principles of Just Culture and patient safety through education and patient safety initiatives. Participate in committees and/or performance improvement/patient safety projects as needed.
    • Conduct apparent cause analyses and document in Patient Safety Reporting System; schedule Root Cause Analysis meetings at request of Risk Director; review medical records and prepare timelines as requested by Risk Director; assist Risk Director in conducting Root Cause Analysis interviews, meetings, and follow-up activities, as requested.
    • Work with outside counsel to assist in defense of claims, including gathering information in response to discovery requests.
    • Responsible for identification of significant events for follow-up; assist in managing the "good catch" program; generate safety reports for Risk Director; attend safety briefing meetings for Risk Management; assist with grievance resolution where patient safety issues are involved; assist with investigation of alleged abuse by healthcare provider; assist with threat assessment and/or workplace violence issues.
    • Responsible for routine review of Patient Safety Reporting System and additional safety reports to identify, investigate, and report potential and actual claims to system Risk Management. Assist with establishing appropriate reserves. Generate new matters in claims management system. Secure any video and/or photo evidence, medical devices or other tangible objects involved.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Three years of experience in healthcare or three years of experience in risk management in a non-healthcare setting
    • Bachelor Degree

    Desired:

    • Three years of experience in healthcare risk management, quality or patient safety
    • Certification or Experience in one or more of the following:
      • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management
      • Certified Legal Nurse Consultant
      • Certified Professional in Patient Safety
      • Registered Nurse
