Summary:


Under the general supervision of the site principal, the Career Specialist will assist teachers in providing classroom Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) instruction to students in grades TK-6.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Develops, prepares, presents, and coordinates classroom VAPA lessons.
  • Provides assistance in developing a schoolwide VAPA instruction schedule.
  • Coordinates schoolwide VAPA projects and programs.
  • Plans and presents school VAPA displays and exhibits.
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of VAPA materials.
  • Organizes storage areas and control the use of materials to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Provides input to staff regarding pupil progress in the area of VAPA.
  • Helps mantain a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Attends meetings and trainings required by the district.
  • Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Qualifications:

***- Knowledge and Skills:
  • Requires the ability to carry out the duties of this position, demonstrate competence in one or more of the major fields of VAPA, and establish a desirable VAPA model for students. Maintains confidentiality of information about staff or students. Meets district standards for physical and mental health. Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Abilities:
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Requires the ability to see the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students. Requires the ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. Requires the ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.

Education and Experience:


  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor;s Degree in Art or related field
  • A background working with elementary students is preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:


  • Requires a valid driver's license.

Salary and Terms of Service:


Salary range (66) $ $45.99 per hour, eight (8) steps, seven (7) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F).

Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits.

Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance, prepaid life insurance plan for employee only, prorated according to number of hours worked.
