About Us:


Now in its 24th year, Read to Grow is a CT based early literacy nonprofit that operates statewide, providing more than 120,000 books a year to children and families through our Books for Babies, Books for Kids, and Bookmobile programs.

Whether it's supporting families as their child's first and most important teacher by giving every baby born at 14 CT hospitals and counting their first book or helping families build home libraries through regular and frequent book distributions, Read to Grow is committed to the power of literacy to change lives and to the vision that all children deserve books of their own.


Position Overview:

Read to Grow is poised to expand the work we do to reach more children and families. We are looking for an experienced, creative Program Director to join our team.

The Program Director will play a key role in overseeing and implementing our Books for Babies (BfB), Books for Kids (BfK), and Bookmobile (BKMB) programs and initiatives.

The Program Director will report to the Executive Director and will supervise the BfB, BfK, and BKMB teams.

The Program Director will work closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure the successful implementation and continuous improvement of our programs.

This position is largely in person, on site, with some limited hybrid scheduling options.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Operations:_ Oversee the daytoday operations of Books for Babies, Books for Kids and Bookmobile, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers to ensure highquality program delivery and participant engagement.
  • Program Implementation: _Implement strategic plans for program initiatives in alignment with the organization's mission and goals. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including staff and volunteers, to coordinate program activities and ensure program effectiveness. Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, including hospitals, schools, libraries, and other nonprofit organizations, to expand program reach and impact.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:_ Monitor and evaluate program outcomes and impact through data collection and analysis and make recommendations for program improvements. Monitor program related grant funding to ensure grant requirements are met. Prepare regular reports and presentations on program activities, progress, and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Early Literacy Promotion:_ Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and research in early literacy education and incorporate findings into program development and implementation. Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and meetings to promote early literacy awareness and advocate for early literacy investments and programming.

Qualifications:


  • 35 years of experience in program management, preferably in the nonprofit sector or education field.
  • Strong understanding of literacy issues and challenges, particularly within underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Excellent project management skills, including exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and inspire staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management software.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Passion for literacy education and a commitment to advancing educational equity and social justice.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, nonprofit management, or a related field.

  • Salary range: $60,000$70,000.
