    Overview

    The Radiology Technologist Per Diem performs imaging procedures and provides basic patient care, explains standard procedures, answers patient questions, prepares and maintains equipment, transports patients, and prepares and maintains documentation. This is a non-budgeted position with a minimum hours requirement of 80 hours per 8 week schedule with at least 48 hours worked on the weekend and/or on night shift, unless the only need is on day shift. Holiday, Float, Call and Low Census requirements are as specified in the NAH Imaging Department Per Diem Pool Agreement.

    Per Diem positions include:

    Per Diem 1: Diagnostic/Xray
    Per Diem 2: CT or Mammography
    Per Diem 3: MRI or Interventional Radiology
    Per Diem 4: Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine
    Per Diem 5: Multimodality A – Any two or more of Diagnostic/Xray, CT, Mammography or MRI modalities
    Per Diem 6: Multimodality B - Any two or more of MRI, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine or Ultrasound modalities

    This position's work location is on-site only.


    Responsibilities

    Patient Care
    * Obtains patient history.

    Educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.

    Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.

    Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.

    Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.

    Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.

    Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies.

    Maintains infection prevention standards.

    Explains standard procedures and answers patient questions.

    Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.

    Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.

    Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.

    Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.


    Modality Specific

    CT:

    Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of a patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.

    Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas.

    Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.

    May perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.

    Mammography:

    Prepares patient and equipment for mammography procedure.

    Positions patient throughout the procedures, adjusting immobilization devices for proper compression.

    Performs radiologic mammography exams, including screenings and diagnostic studies, and analysis.

    May participate in the performance of advanced mammography procedures such as stereostatic biopsies, clip placements, drainages.

    MRI:

    Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used for diagnosis and treatment of patient pathologies.

    Uses knowledge of imaging techniques and cross-sectional anatomy to create high quality scans.

    Modifies technical settings and adjusts scanning parameters to enhance images and minimize unnecessary exposure.

    Start IVs and/or catheters effectively and consistently for the MRI process.

    Prepare, administer and monitor IV contrast and/or patient sedation and patient status.

    Ensure completion of screenings for pacemakers and other patient status affecting qualification for MRI.


    Modality Specific (Continued)
    Diagnostic/Xray:

    Performs radiographic procedures using both stationary and mobile radiographic equipment.

    Responsible for appropriate set up of the xray room and manipulation of equipment, and proper placement of patient for procedure.

    Ensure proper image capture of skeletal structure request for diagnosis and treatment purposes.

    Process and develops exposed xray film and creates xray CD copies for review and interpretation.

    Ultrasound:

    Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomic data.

    Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes.

    Utilizes transabdominal technology to monitor patient or fetus health, detect or monitor tumors/cysts and diagnose cardiovascular conditions.

    May assist with vascular ultrasound procedures and ultrasound guided biopsies and other guided procedures.

    Nuclear Medicine:

    Performs nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrating competence in performing invasive/interventional procedures.

    Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments.

    Operates imaging equipment and technology to track and record radiation with the patient's body, and prepares image reports.

    Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measures.

    Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical safe receipt, administration, storage, usage and disposal for regulatory compliance.


    Quality
    * Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

    Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.

    Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.


    Education

    Compliance/Safety
    * Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

    If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

    Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

    Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.


    Qualifications

    Education
    Associates of Applied Science or other Related Fields- Required
    Ultrasonographer: Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program
    (or)
    Associates of Applied Science degree and graduation from an Ultrasound certificate program
    Nuclear Medicine: Associates of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology with NMTCB Certification
    (or)
    Graduation from an Accredited Nuclear Medicine Certificate Program with NMTCB - Required

    IR: Completion of a JRCERT approval formal program in Radiologic Technology or military equivalent- Required

    MRTBE, ARRT- Required
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

    CT:MRTBE CT-Required
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

    Mammography: MRTBE Mammography - Required
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

    MRI Technologist: ARRT MRI (or) ARMRIT-Required
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

    Ultrasonography: ARDMS within 6 months of hire- required; RVT-Preferred
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

    Nuclear Medicine: CMTCB-Required
    BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required


    IR: Current Arizona Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)- Required


    Registered Radiology Technologist-ARRT- Required


    CVRT- Preferred


    ARRT (VI)- Preferred

    NAHMG Clinic-Based Staff (Does not apply to Imaging Clinic):


    Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire

    Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire

    Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


    Experience
    Minimum 1 year experience as imaging technologist - Required (3 years experience Preferred)
    Experience in Hospital Trauma 1 and Trauma 2 environment - Preferred


    CT/Mammography: One year experience in Diagnostic Radiology and/or CT, Mammography - Preferred

    MRI: two years experience as ARRT MRI (or) ARMRIT - Preferred


    Nuclear Medicine: Three years experience as CNMT- Preferred


    IR: General radiology technologist 1 year in IR in hospital setting- Required*


    Catherizations/Vascular minimum 2 years- Required*


    Three years interventional/cardiac cath experience- Preferred*


    General radiology experience with emphasis toward interventional procedures- Preferred*


    *Experience not required for candidates hired into department training program.
