  • Napa Valley College is seeking a DSPS Specialist for Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS). The incumbent in this position will be coordinating and overseeing the program and services to provide support to students with disabilities; interpreting Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) compliance and policies, and their related activities; providing oversight and guidance in solving problems with accommodations; and ensuring the effective operation of Disability Support Programs and Services compliance with established Federal Guidelines including Title 5, ADA and 504.This job reports to Dean, Disability Support Programs and ServicesThis is a full-time, 12-months-per-year, classified position.

The salary has an appropriate placement on range 15 of the current Classified Salary Schedule. The starting salary range is $4,462 to $5,166/month, with future steps up to $6,279/month. Placement is made based on experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Essential Functions:

Assists with day-to-day operations of DSPS (e.g. student services professionals, functions of Napa Valley College student services, procedures, long-range planning, etc.) for the purpose of supporting supervisor in achieving organizational objectives, ensuring appropriate accommodations are being utilized, and determining appropriate actions for students with disabilities for the purpose of meeting student needs and complying with policies, federal and state regulations.

  • Assists in program activities and special event activities supporting department and Student Affairs for the purpose of supporting supervisor in providing a variety of activates to enrich student life and student retention for both credit and noncredit students.
  • Compiles data from a wide variety of sources (e.g. staff, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of supporting supervisor in analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures, and monitoring program compliance.
  • Coordinates services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students (e.g. act as liaison between students, faculty, staff, agencies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring interpretation services and implementation of all processes in compliance with policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Develops forms, materials, and procedures for the purpose of providing necessary information/education to prospective and enrolled students, faculty and staff.
  • Evaluates accommodation operating procedures (e.g. recommended policy changes, handbook revisions, document updates, student services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of state and federal regulations and institutional policies, and ensuring individual tools are available to meet students' needs.
  • Maintains a variety of files, documents and/or records (e.g. medical, state/federal accommodation, reports, student records, databases, etc.) for the purpose of supporting supervisor in documenting activities, ensuring updates, accuracy and privacy of student records, providing written reports, and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Oversees note takers and distribution of specialized instruments (e.g. training, scheduling, faculty/student communications, tracking, etc.) for the purpose of providing student support by resolving technical and accommodation concerns.
  • Performs a variety of program eligibility student case load processes (e.g. assessment interviews with outside agencies pertaining to perspective students, maintaining records for documenting individual progress, developing and monitoring student outcomes data, followup activities, etc.) for the purpose of addressing student service needs.
  • Provides oversight and guidance in solving problems (e.g. student issues with coordination of services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the effective operation of DSPS in compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
  • Researches a wide variety of topics (e.g. policies, regulations, current practices, student services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring program compliance with established requirements, securing general information, and responding to requests.
