  • The mission of Facilities Management is to enable the institute to carry out its mission of teaching, research and advisory service by providing cost effective and efficient planning, design, construction, maintenance, safety, and security services throughout Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
    Position Summary
  • The Control Systems Technician repairs, installs, modifies, and monitors various automated controls systems on campus. Systems include building automation and lab controls in various campus facilities. Work to include adjustment to automation programming, device repair or replacement, as well as developing reports and other functions as required.
    Conditions of Employment
  • This is a nonexempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and university policy.
  • Valid Driver's license must be maintained at all times.
  • The position will drive company vehicles as required, may be required to travel.
  • Ability to perform physical activities essential to the job.

    Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:


  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's license.

COMPETENCIES:


  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, controls schematics, and service manuals.
  • Knowledge of Energy Management practices and programs.
  • General knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to accurately carries out instructions and complete assignments without continuous review or close supervision.
  • Selfstarter, the proven ability to creatively handle difficult or unusual assignments.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, taking an appropriate level of initiative.
  • Ability to perform physical activities essential to the job.

EXPERIENCE:


  • Substantive experience related to the position.
  • Established background with either HVAC related or controls driven mechanical systems

Preferred Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:


  • Possess a manufacturer training certificate or equivalent experience
  • Experience with major digital controls hardware and software
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller systems.
  • Experience with commercial / industrial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system.
  • Process and water treatment systems experience.
