Job Summary and Qualifications:


As the Sterile Processing Technician Lead, you will take primary responsibility for the cleanliness, operational function, and sterility of surgical instruments.

You will provide in-house sterilization of specific supplies and equipment used in the sterile processing department

  • You will retrieve equipment from operating rooms, clean and decontaminate instruments after each case, check instruments for defects, and conduct an inventory of each instrument set after cases
  • You will load, operate, and clean all sterilizers and equipment using biological and chemical controls
  • You will prepare and file appropriate documentation for each sterilizer load
  • You will perform biological testing of all steam, gas, and chemical methods of sterilization and report biological test results
  • You will monitor sterilization equipment through all phases of operation and use appropriate procedures in the case of a malfunction
  • You will report stock shortages to management, order supplies as necessary, and keep supply areas clean and orderly
  • You will examine all received supplies for expiration dates, package defects, or any visible damage that may compromise sterility
  • You will maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the decontamination area
  • You will ensure general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets, and all storage areas
Job Requirements

Experience

  • 2 years of clinical experience or Sterile Processing experience
  • 4 years of experience working with instrumentation and infection control procedures preferred
  • Previous experience as a Central Sterile Processing Technician preferred
Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1 year of college in a related field preferred
Licenses and Certifications

  • Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) certification preferred
  • Certification with International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) preferred
