Working under the guidance of the Vice President of Advocacy and Policy, the Migrant Protection and Integration Policy Officer will be an integral part of a dynamic policy and advocacy team. Your role will involve advancing public policy efforts to support newcomers affected by US Government immigration policies through administrative, legislative, and regulatory measures.


Global Refuge, formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting newcomers in finding safety, support, and opportunities to pursue the American dream.

We provide support to individuals, families, and children as they begin new chapters in the United States through initiatives such as refugee resettlement, services for asylum seekers, economic empowerment, family unification for unaccompanied children, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Expand the reach of Global Refuge's mission through legal, policy, and political advocacy to advocate for humane treatment and integration of arriving newcomers like asylum seekers and long-term residents without permanent legal status.
  • Develop strategies to enable identified populations to seek protection, support family unification, promote human dignity, and facilitate integration.
  • Conduct research on various legal and policy issues related to newly arrived individuals, funding eligibility, permanency options, and integration opportunities to present practical solutions for the affected population.
  • Create advocacy materials and educational campaigns, and respond to requests from organizational partners, government entities, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide political, policy, and legal analysis to coalition partners and stakeholders to support Global Refuge's public policy initiatives, with a focus on bipartisan engagement.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Global Refuge and build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders to collaborate on joint actions and campaigns.
  • Lead individual policy and advocacy efforts and facilitate group support for tailored advocacy campaigns aligned with Global Refuge's programs.
  • Assess and provide factual analyses on sign-on letters, serving as a key contributor to Global Refuge's lobbying activities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A master's degree, law degree, or equivalent in fields like international relations, public policy, or social work, with at least 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience on Capitol Hill is desirable.
  • Expertise in areas such as immigration, civil rights, homeland security, and international affairs is highly valued.
  • Strong abilities in legal analysis, research, and predicting legislative and regulatory trends.
  • Excellent skills in research, writing, and communication.
