- Advises on the development and implementation of policy recommendations for U.S. positions on controversial and politically sensitive chemical weapon (CW) issues.
- Formulates and prepares formal proposals, statements, and assessments for use in regular dealings and special projects involving the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
- Provides policy analysis, development, and coordination of both functional and regional matters relevant to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).
- Represents the Office, Bureau, and Department in interagency groups and meetings related to chemical or biological weapons arms control.
- Supports multilateral negotiations addressing existing and emerging issues relevant to the viability of the CWC and BWC.

Summary
This position is in the Bureau of Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability; Office of Chemical and Biological Weapons Affairs (ADS/CBW).
CBW leads Department efforts to promote the global ban on chemical weapons as embodied in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), develops policies to address emerging chemical weapons issues and challenges, assesses compliance with CWC and the Biological Weapons Convention, and serves as the U.S. National Authority overseeing U.S. implementation of the CWC.
