Food Service Worker

Salary $16.04 -$20 hour


SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Chef, food service workers prepare quality food and baked goods

according to a planned menu, and they package meals for transport. Food Service Workers

adhere to Alta's food safety policies and procedures including accurate food safety and

sanitation, and they are responsible for the proper cleaning and sanitation of the overall kitchen.


DUTIES:

• Cook and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized

recipes

• Set up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
• Prepare ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling

food items

• Safely use a variety of utensils including knives
• Operate equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
• Bake, roast, broil, steam, and use a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables,

and other foods

• Portion and package food for transport according to established guidelines
• Properly store raw and cooked food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area
• Scrub and polish counters, clean and sanitize steam tables, and other equipment
• Follow established procedures and standards for cleanliness, to ensure a balanced and

safe environment; duties include sweeping, moping, ware washing

• Maintain garbage collection site and kitchen floor areas in a neat and sanitary fashion
• Perform other duties as assigned including other areas in the kitchen

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of food prep, proper knife handling, temperature control, and sanitation

preferred.

• Must be able to read and write to facilitate communication with others.
• Mathematical ability required.
• Be able to work quickly and concisely under pressure

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• At least 1 year of experience working in a school or commercial kitchen required
• Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred
• ServeSafe Food Handler Certification, required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The ability to lift/push objects weighing over 25lbs.
• The ability to have repetitive use of hands for grasping, folding, pushing, pouring,

kneading, and fine manipulation

• The ability to bend, twist, walk, and stand to perform normal job functions
• The ability to handle cleaning chemicals and wash hands frequently
