Part-Time Ranch Hand (Friday - Monday)

Position Requirements:

Experience in operating agricultural equipment; able to work with heavy machinery and occasionally lift approximately 40-50 lbs.; valid driver's license; minimum of two years working with livestock; excellent organizational skills; exceptional attention to detail; great problem-solver and takes initiative; ability to work independently; outstanding verbal and written communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; ability work up to ten hours a day four days per week (Friday-Monday).

Responsibilities:

• Provide daytoday care of over onehundred alpacas, along with several dogs and cats, as well as one to two horses, including but not limited to replacing old sawdust, cleaning water buckets, cleaning feed tubs, filling water buckets, laying down fresh hay, feeding alpacas grain as needed, turning alpacas in and out, grooming alpacas, inspecting alpacas for illness and injuries, and manure management;
• Assist in alpaca herd health including but not limited to weighing, medications, birthing, basic first aid, documentation, etc.;
• Ensure that all barn equipment is cleaned, maintained, and organized properly at the end of each day;
• Ability to transport alpacas with truck and trailer to purchasers, leases, events, and vet appointments;
• Ability to clearly and proactively communicate with owners when an issue or questions arises, supplies are needed, and with any other pertinent information and updates;
• Routinely clean the barn and pastures to ensure a safe environment for animals, employees, tourists, and property owners, by picking up manure, debris, and ensuring food and water are fresh and available at all times;
• Ability to work in all weather conditions (sometimes extreme heat/cold, wind, rain, snow, etc.);
• Routinely maintain and manage the cleanliness and appearance of the barn, pastures, fences, and related fixtures;
• Routinely inspect and repair barn, runin sheds, fences, gates, fixtures, etc.;
• Routinely replenish barn supplies, feed, livestock medicine, repair parts, gas for barn vehicles, as well footing and landscaping supplies;
• Routinely transfer household trash and recycling to trash cans and dumpsters and place bins at curb for pick up; load larger trash or yard debris into the dump trailer and transport it to either the landfill or local dump;
• Inspect barn and pastures on a weekly basis by meeting with Ranch Manager to discuss any outstanding barn issues;
• Routinely mow and landscape the pastures, paths, and related areas;
• Ability to navigate agritourism while caring for the alpacas and their environments
• Accept and follow through with other projects as assigned.
