BC US LLC was established in 2012 near Immokalee Florida, approximately 40 miles due east of Naples Florida. The site serves as a breeding, holding, and quarantine facility for Mauritian origin macaques.

Together with our high-level of care and enrichment programs, we ensure that the company oversees a program of the highest standards providing non-human primate models for life-saving biomedical research programs to pharmaceutical companies, CRO's as well as Universities.

We are currently looking for a Veterinarian Technician to come join our fast growing team in Immokalee, FL


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Provide compassionate care for the animals.
  • Conduct clinical observations for hospital and colony animals
  • Assist veterinarians in all aspects of clinical care
  • Responsible for restraining of ill or injured animals.
  • Assess and complete treatment of hospitalized animals or animals treated in outdoor enclosures.
  • Assist in taking of xrays, ultrasounds, surgery, and necropsy
  • Perform laboratory test (i.e. fecal, CBC, Chemistries, blood processing)
  • Shipment of biological samples
  • Maintaining enrichment platforms
  • Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized animals.
  • Release hospital animals upon completion of treatment as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Coordinates animal shipments
  • Maintain all hospital areas in a neat and sanitary condition. Assist in cleaning cages and all hospital areas including surgery suite, necropsy, treatment/procedure rooms, neonatal and isolation areas.
  • Maintains Pharmacy inventory restocking treatment/procedure rooms as needed.
  • Maintains logbooks for expired drugs, specimen testing, necropsy, xray, ketamine
  • Participate in physical animal processing including lifting and transport of equipment and supplies, animal handling, lifting and transfer of animals from one enclosure to another, anesthesia, exam, vaccinations, venipuncture, tattooing, TB testing, deworming, microchipping, recovery and release
  • Assist with NHP Behaviorist group introductions and familiarization
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Assist in writing and providing AAALAC program description details.
  • Revise relevant SOPs as needed.
  • Participate in the training program for all existing staff and new hires.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to teams working with breeding groups.
  • Plan, manage, and supervise weekly events to ensure compliance with all quality standards
  • Participate in client communications, audits, and meetings.
  • Create and maintain client spreadsheets.
  • Create and deliver presentations for clients.
  • Evaluate and develop new approaches, ideas, and concepts for existing tasks and/or improve/replace existing procedures or systems.
  • Participate in IACUC.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • Must be able to read write, and interpret documents including task descriptions, standard operating procedures, and other instructions.
  • Spanish required
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Behavior, Anthropology or Animal Science OR at least 2 years of experience working with NHPs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Yearly continuing education (LAT, LATG).
  • Proficient with animal tracking systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


  • Florida Drivers' License or equivalent.
  • ALAT certification within 12 months of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:


  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including operation procedures (SOPs), and other instructions.

REASONING ABILITIES:


  • Must be able to make decisions relative to standard operating procedures and must know when to contact the Attending Veterinarian.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to undergo fit testing for a N95 respirator mask. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Additionally, the employee must be able to distinguish colors.
