- Ensures that work complies with all applicable rules and regulations
- Uses and disposes of materials in accordance with applicable environmental safety and control regulations
- Sets up tables, chairs, podium, stages, coat racks and other type of event equipment
- Keeps abreast of changes and new developments in applicable codes and regulations
- Dresses in proper uniform and carries a valid University identification at all times
- Knows and uses appropriate and acceptable safety measures, especially in the event of exposure to potentially dangerous and/or hazardous conditions and
- Performs work both inside a building and in outside spaces during all seasons and in all types of weather
- Performs assigned hours, which are dependent upon the needs of the University
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 1 year of custodial work experience and event set up - preferred
- Current Driver's license from Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia
- Ability to qualify to conform to the University Driving Policy.
- Ability to read and understand product label instructions as well as University policies and procedures
- Ability able to work well both independently and as part of a team
- Capable of relating custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center
- Ability to lift up to fifty pounds, push and/or pull equipment up to 100 pounds on a rolling dolly
- Ability able to use arms and hands to lift and carry up to thirty-five pounds and tools of the trade
- Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend and crouch, to reach and pull and to work on equipment
- Ability to see, hear, smell and a fundamental understanding of chemicals
- Ability and flexibility to accommodate emergency situations, such as staffing shortages

Job Overview
The Special Events Worker II provides a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.
They work in accordance with a detailed plan to support academic, social, and cultural events, performing general and specific cleaning, deliveries, moving furniture, set ups and break downs of equipment, such as tables, chairs, podiums, stages and coat racks.
In emergency or unusual situations, they perform other tasks as assigned - including but not limited to minor carpentry work, painting, moving, custodial responsibilities of floor care, classroom cleaning, restroom cleaning, snow and ice removal and clean up associated with water or fire damages.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Reporting directly to the Special Events Manager, the Special Events II works both alone and with others so that the work can be completed timely and efficiently and that events can go smoothly.
They interact mainly with fellow special event workers, and occasionally with the Events Coordinator and the Office of Student Activity Facilities staff.
Under certain circumstances - including but not limited to emergency snow removal, spills, and flooding, they respond to requests from the Facilities Management office and/or other Facilities Managers as may be required.
Emergency Designation The Special Events Worker II is designated an Emergency Employee, requiring the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late or closing early.
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation.
