Job Summary
Position responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Memorial Hermann Food Pharmacy. This includes pantry operations, client relations, data entry, and managing inventory. Position requires frequent contact with clients, vendors, staff, and the general public.

Position is responsible for maintaining a close working relationship with internal staff as well as community-based and private sector organizations to coordinate food security efforts.

Typically reports to Food as Health Program Manager.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)


Licenses/Certifications:


  • Food Handler (FH) Certification from an accredited food handler training course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) or by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) required. Food Services Manager (FSM) certification from an accredited food service manager course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) or by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) required.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:


  • Minimum of one (1) year of operations experience required. Prior experience working in a grocery store and/or knowledge of food pantry operations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate with stakeholders at all levels including employees, clients, and members of the community.
  • Knowledge of storage practices, inventory management, and food safety standards.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manages all product inventories necessary for executing Memorial Hermann Food Pharmacy programs.
  • Adheres to all local, state, and/or federal health regulations including food preparation and sanitation standards.
  • Oversees all shipments, organization, and stock of food at the Food Pharmacy.
  • Orders and receives food, validates invoices, records inventory of food, and reports data. Houston Food Bank required reports and department metrics and outcomes.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for all visitors and employees of Memorial Hermann.
  • Maintains timely orders of food and supplies to ensure appropriate stock.
  • Assists patient navigator/dietitian with patient flow, enrollment, and identification of other resources for the food insecure.
  • Coordinates with clinical dietitian for creation and maintenance of Food Pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports departmentbased goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
