***The School Safety Officer is responsible for providing a secure and safe environment for all scholars, staff, volunteers and visitors within the school premises. This role demands a vigilant, proactive, and compassionate approach to security and safety, with an emphasis on creating a welcoming and secure educational atmosphere. This position reports to our Chief Operating Officer.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Campus Patrolling: Conduct regular patrols of the school campus to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of school buildings and grounds.
  • Incident Response: Respond promptly to alarms and dispatched calls; address disturbances or emergencies with appropriate urgency and professionalism.
  • Attend all relevant training, as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Visitor Screening: Monitor entry and exit points; ensure that all visitors comply with the school's access policies and assist them with directions or information.
  • Safety Audits: Participate in regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential security vulnerabilities and safety hazards.
  • Emergency Preparedness: With members of the Operations Team, assist in the development and implementation of emergency plans and conduct drills to ensure staff and scholars are prepared for various emergency scenarios.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on occurrences on school grounds, including incidents of unauthorized access, accidents, and safety violations.
  • Communication: Serve as a liaison between school administration and local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
  • Scholar Interaction: Engage with scholars, families, volunteers and staff in a positive and professional manner, promoting a safe school environment through respectful and culturally sensitive interactions.

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required; associate degree or higher in criminal justice, public safety, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security work, preferably within an educational environment.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and emergency management procedures preferred.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and have no felony convictions; must maintain a clean driving record.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City.
  • Commitment to working with children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families, experience preferred.
  • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
