Summary:


American Institute for Economic Research educates Americans on the value of personal freedom, free enterprise, property rights, limited government, and sound money.

AIER's ongoing scientific research demonstrates the importance of these principles in advancing peace, prosperity, and human progress.

The scholars on our Research team are key contributors to this mission.

Research fellows are responsible for producing rigorous, high-quality, and scientifically robust research that advances the Institute and its intellectual mission of educating the public about economic freedom and the principles of a free society.

Research fellows are expected to make regular and substantive research contributions in both scholarly and popular venues, as well as regular contributions to the Institute's publications and products.

Research fellows will interact with external audiences and participate in major projects, research and education programs, and AIER efforts in joint programs with outside groups.


While we are open to those with expertise in any area of economic freedom, we are especially interested in applicants with an interest in fiscal policy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Plan and conduct empirical, applied research with mínimal supervision, and produce publications, including white papers, based on this research that meet the highest standards of social science research;
  • Synthesize research findings for AIER members and audiences in print and online publications;
  • Regularly review and analyze the economic and financial news, as well as current scholarly research developments within the broader scope of the Institute's intellectual mission;
  • Support our internship programs;
  • Write editorials based on your findings, analysis, and opinions;
  • Conduct independent research in pursuance of professional advancement;
  • Prepare and deliver speeches and presentations for on campus, off campus, and online audiences;
  • Engage in promotional activities such as media interviews, oped pieces, and online content;
  • Teach in the educational programs of the Institute;
  • Work collaboratively with research team members;

Desired Qualifications and Skills:


  • Advanced degree or professional experience in business, economics, finance, political science, or related field;
  • High level of knowledge related to fiscal policy preferred, or high level of knowledge related to economic freedom more generally;
  • Experience in designing and conducting social science research;
  • Experience in conducting quantitative research;
  • Student program experience;
  • Knowledge of at least one statistical software package;
  • Excellent written and oral communication with the ability to engage with and persuasively present to a variety of audiences;
  • Intellectual curiosity;
  • Ability to selfmanage;
  • Desire for continual improvement.

The employee must be able to communicate both in writing and orally to various audiences, in person, by telephone and video.

The noise level in the work environment is relatively quiet. It is a typical private office environment. The position requires travel for conferences and speaking engagements.
