    Summary



    Northern Arizona VA Health Care System is looking for an Assistant Nurse Manager to join the Surgical Services team



    Duties


    The duties of the position include but are not limited to:

    • Demonstrating effective leadership in assigned areas; understanding processes, procedures, standards, methods, and technologies related to assignment; collaborates well with others.
    • Communicating orally and in writing.
    • Assuring that staff documentation is accurate, indicating patient findings, assessments, and care provided in the medical record, focusing on established performance standards.
    • Facilitating and guiding nursing staff activities or unit-based programs/projects by actively leading others to foster collaborative working relationships.
    • Effectively handling problems requiring minimal guidance and reporting situations to the Nurse Manager promptly and accurately.
    • Taking initiative to cover unplanned leave and other scheduling problems and informing Nurse Manager regarding outcomes.
    • Effectively overseeing unit operations in the absence of the Nurse Manager and keeping the Associate Chief Nurse abreast of relevant events in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Consistently demonstrating sound judgment in problem/conflict resolution skills and daily decisions regarding overall unit operations.
    • Initiating PI activities demonstrating knowledge of the PI process, regulatory standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
    • Participating in measuring work outcomes and keeping current on new developments.
    • Utilizing appropriate position descriptions / functional statements, Performance Standards, and Qualification Standards to provide feedback to Nurse Managers on the performance of Title 38 and Title 5 (GS) employees and assisting with completing proficiencies and evaluations as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
    • Continuously evaluating standards of care and making recommendations to improve compliance.
    • Completing policy/procedure development and reviewing promptly under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
    • Ensuring that reporting mechanisms are followed and reports, as assigned by the Nurse Manager, are completed by the due date.
    • Assuring all staff members complete mandatory annual reviews and assistant Nurse Manager in certifying staff competencies.
    • Exhibiting negotiation skills to confront issues that block the achievement of goals.
    • Supporting shared governance principles by encouraging shared decision-making and rewards collaborative efforts.
    • Maintaining staff confidentiality.
    • Assistant the Nurse Manager in providing an open forum for staff to discuss ethical issues and facilitating problem resolution through appropriate channels.
    • Empowering staff, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, to resolve problems and complaints independently at the lowest level.
    • Demonstrating positive communication skills and behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers.
    • Searching for and recognizing "best practices" in customer service and continuously using customer feedback to plan, provide, and improve services.
    • Utilizing evidence-based practice to assist the Nurse Manager in implementing change.
    • Using knowledge and demonstrating leadership in using resources (services, equipment, and supplies) in collaboration with other departments and Nurse Managers to improve the quality of patient care.
    Preferred Experience: Outpatient specialty clinics including but limited to Podiatry, GI, Endoscopy, Urology, Wound Care, Surgery.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
