Surgical Suite Clerk

I. Position Description**- The Surgical Suite Clerk is trained in clerical and receptionist duties as well as use and data entry into Compulink

  • The surgical Suite Clerk will assist the Director of Nurses (DON) and the Nursing Supervisor with these components of surgical procedures

II. Minimal Qualifications**- High School graduate or equivalent

  • Prior clerical/receptionist experience desired
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with current TB skin test
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to lift up to twentyfive (25) pounds

III. Accountability**- Reports to the Director of Nurses

  • Reports to the Nursing Supervisor

Responsibilities:


  • Assists the Director of Nurses and/or the Nursing Supervisor in preparing the surgical chart and other necessary paperwork for patients who are planning to have surgery
  • Assists the Director of Nurses and/or the Nursing Supervisor in any clerical and/or receptionist functions that may occur in the operation of the facility; these functions include but are not limited to:
i. Telephone Communications

ii. Typing

iii. Copying

iv. Faxing

v. Filing

vi. Delivering items as directed

vii. Retrieving files

  • Assists the Director of Nurses and/or the Nursing Supervisor in ensuring that manuals and logs are current and up to date
  • Assists the Director of Nurses and/or the Nursing Supervisor with ensuring that meetings, drills, etc. are conducted on a timely basis.
  • Assists the Director of Nurses and/or the Nursing Supervisor in ensuring that the facility inventory is kept current and that supplies/equipment data are documented correctly and timely in the appropriate log book. In addition, assists the Director of Nurses and/or RN in assuring that supplies and/or equipment are maintained at appropriate levels
  • Assists in stocking of supplies, linens, patient preop kits
  • Assists in other assignments as requested by the supervisor
  • Uses appropriate channels for developing and implementing changes
  • Attends staff meetings and a minimum of 6 hours of continuing education in the calendar year
  • Understands and supports REC/ESS objectives and goals
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and communicates with the compliance officer regarding procedural changes and concern
On surgery days works technician positions of surgery check in, discharge technician, and pre/post technician.


Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of the management formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.


V. Minimum Background Skills**- Position requires patient, physician and vendor contact; therefore, individual must exhibit pleasant manners, be professional in conduct, have the ability to listen and represent Rummel Eye Care/Eye Surgery Services standards of high efficiency and decorum.


VI. Minimum Demonstrated Skills**- Requires accuracy and thoroughness in data entry

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of sterile processes in accordance with Department of Health and Human Services and Medicare regulations
  • Displays consistent professionalism
  • Is energetic and empathetic with patients and consistently displays a positive rapport with fellow employees
  • Cooperates with supervisory staff and physicians
  • Demonstrates flexibility in job assignments
  • Takes pride and ownership in success and image of Rummel Eye Care/Eye Surgery Services
  • Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
  • Requires ability to work as a team member
  • Requires skills in operating computers, word processing software, fax machines and copier machines
  • Work is fast paced and multitasked
  • Possess the ability to learn about services and terminology

VII. Physical Demands**- Must be able to stand, reach, bend, and squat repeatedly during the day

  • Must be able to communicate via the telephone
  • Must be able to view and type computer data

VIII. Interpersonal Relationship**- Works as a team member of REC/ESS

  • Considers orderliness of work areas and the treatment of equipment and supplies
  • Is friendly, cheerful, neat and trustworthy
  • Knows existing lines of communication and authority

Pay:
$ $20.00 per hour
