Overview:

  • Under general supervision and medical direction, provides any or all of the designated respiratory care therapies designed to care for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities, which affect the pulmonary system and associates aspects of cardiopulmonary function.
  • This position requires providing care and/or service to a critically ill through subacutely ill newborn patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.
  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support San Gabriel Valley Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

Responsibilities:


Specific Job Duties:


  • Follows appropriate Code Blue notification procedures.
Functions in a Code Blue quickly and calmly providing CPR

Communicates significant changes in patient's condition/status in a timely manner

Effectively prioritizes clinical Interventions and care.

ACLS required to assist with procedural sedation.


Ability to perform:

  • Humidification Therapy.
  • Oxyen setup/administration.
  • Pulse Oximetry setup/monitoring.
  • Arterial blood gas sampling and analysis
  • Adult Intubation Independently
  • Aerosol Medications (Nebulizer Treatments).
  • Incentive Spirometry.
  • Postural Drainage and Percussion.
  • Suctioning (nasotracheal, oral and ETT).
  • Oral Airway Management.
  • Trach Management (Monthly change and Daily maintenance).
  • ETT care.
  • Intubation (Assists Physician).
  • Ventilator setup and operation.
  • Ventilator troubleshooting.
  • Weaning and Extubating.
  • Bronchoscopy Assist
  • Thoracentesis Assist
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • EKG's.
Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use.

Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use.

Uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturer's operating instructions, including but not limited to:
Puritan Bennett 7200A & E Ventilator

Siemens Servo S Ventilator

Compressed air/gas tanks

Oxygen administration devices- Pulse Oximeters

Suction Equipment (wall/portable)

Bipap and Cpap Ventilator

Viasys VELA Ventilator

Arterial blood gas analyzers.

Understands actions, side-effects, contra-indications of drugs.

Follows five "rights" of medication administration.

Adheres to medication policies, practices and standards.

Administers medication, only on physician request and guidance.

Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and post-care.

Maintains current BLS, ACLS, PALS cognitive & skills validation (_circle all that apply_).

Performs reassessments/care at intervals as required or appropriate to the patient's specific needs.

Communicates effectively with physicians and allied health team.

Coordinates respiratory care with other disciplines involved

Involves allied health team members, as necessary.

Actively participates in multidisciplinary care conferences.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Adult:

Education/Training/Experience:

Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy

Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Experience required


Adult:
Licenses/Certifications

Current CA license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner

Current BCLS-C Card

PALS and ACLS required
