Ann's Home & School, in Methuen, MA, is a leader in special education and residential programming, offering private day programs, child and adolescent residential services, along with a broad range of outpatient services.

St. Ann's Home, in Methuen, MA is seeking a Unit Director.

Unit directors should have a minimum of a bachelors degree and at least 2 years work experience in a residential treatment facility including at least 1 year supervisory or administrative experience.

Unit directors are responsible for particular groups of children living at St. Ann's. They are experienced in working with children who need emotional and behavioral supports.

In consultation with the unit therapist and the educational staff, they are responsible for the formulation and implementation of the treatment plans and individualized behavioral programs for all children on their unit.


Unit directors are responsible for reestablishing and supervising all aspects of the daily routines of the children on their unit.

In addition to working directly with the children, the unit directors are responsible for planning unit activities and insuring adequate child care coverage.

They are responsible for formulating behavioral programs designed to teach the children effective daily living and social interaction skills.

Unit directors of the group home units are also responsible for maintaining good rapport with neighbors and for assisting adolescents in the development of pre-vocational skills.


The unit director and the individual child's therapist comprise the treatment team which has the primary responsibility for the child's non-academic program.

The unit directors meet weekly with the educational staff to coordinate planning and are available as needed regarding particular school problems.

They chair weekly unit meetings, attend program meetings, formulate treatment objectives, prepare written progress summaries, attend case conferences and annual IEP meetings, and supervise their unit's child care staff.

While unit directors are initially assigned to a particular unit, they may be transferred to another unit on a temporary or permanent basis according to the needs of the agency.

The unit directors receive weekly supervision from a residential supervisor. They are directly responsible, as assigned, to the residential program directors or their designee.

Unit directors should be able to react quickly, drive a motor vehicle, participate in activities, sports and recreation.

Unit directors should be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, reach, push and pull, and climb stairs.

This position is based on a 48 hour work week which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Unit directors are expected to work extended shifts which may be up to 24 hours or occasionally may be longer.

Position requires extended periods of awake time.

Unit directors need to have good judgement skills, be able to work in a crisis situation, and be capable of independent thinking.

Unit directors must be able to physically restrain children in an emergency to ensure everyone's safety is maintained and are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
