Description
Under the general supervision of an ophthalmologist, the orthoptist evaluates and manages eye movement abnormalities. Demonstrates continued competence in treating and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective. Responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways. They evaluate vision and ocular alignment using specialized examination techniques. They will manage prisms including Fresnel. They are also expected to performs orthptic/eye muscle training for patients with continuing medical direction and evaluation. The orthoptist determines visual acuity level, focus ability, binocular function and eye movements.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Computer Literacy
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or dually certified in both AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support and AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of orthoptic internship
  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare environment
  • Certification by the American Orthoptic Council (AOC)
  • English/Spanish fluency
