PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to supervise, provide and coordinate nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures and to assess residents' care needs and take appropriate action.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of vocational or professional nursing,
- Holds current license or registration with Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
- Knowledge of medications and their effects. 6. Familiarity with, and supervision of the nursing policies and procedures, standards, rules, regulations, staffing pattern and requirements and any other requirements necessary for the positive operation of the Nursing Department in the Facility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow established standards of nursing practices and implement
- Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants,
- Supervise and evaluate all direct resident care and initiate corrective
- Obtain report from nurse being relieved and record sufficient
- Provide report to nurse coming on duty, including sufficient information
- Take appropriate action to assure adequate staffing to meet
- Conduct resident rounds daily, reporting problems to Nursing
- Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
- Identify resident problems and emergency situation and initiate
- Follow, supervise and evaluate implementation of the Residents' Rights program.
- Participate in facility education programs.
- Provide supervision to Nursing Assistant providing direct resident care
- Attend staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, rehabilitation
- Follow staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according
- Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local
- Counsel nursing assistants and recommend disciplinary action to the
- Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing
- Administer and document direct resident care, medications and
- Provide instructions for appropriate nursing care to licensed nurses
- Perform comprehensive assessment of residents as assigned.

- Develop and implement an accurate comprehensive care plan based
- Promptly report changes in residents' conditions to the physician,

- Competently perform basic nursing skills.

- Supervise response to resident's call for assistance.
- Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective
- Count narcotics, check emergency kit and exchange keys.
- Check meal trays and nourishment to ensure proper diet is served
- Order, receive and store medications appropriately.
- Notify physician, when necessary, of changes in resident's condition,
- Document resident progress notes as required.
- Document daily notes on unstable residents, Medicare residents and
- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff,
and ancillary service providers.
- Obtain continuing education required to maintain licensure. 39. Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
