TITLE:
Food Service Aide
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Site Manager
SUMMARY STATEMENT OF PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for receiving, storing, preparing and properly serving the meals in correct portions and cleaning of the food preparation and food service area.
20 hours per week $16.50/hrPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accepts food and supply deliveries and confirms correct item receipts.
- Stores food correctly dry, refrigerated and frozen.
- Takes and records temperatures of hot and cold food items, ensuring food safety
- Prepares hot and cold foods on day of service.
- Packages Home Delivered Meals for daily delivery
- Sets up and runs serving area for smooth flowing client service.
- Works with and assists in supervising volunteer kitchen assistants helping with food preparation, Home Delivered Meal packaging, and food service.
- Cleans equipment and utensils used in food preparation, all food preparation surfaces and all food service areas.
- Cleans dining room as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Creates daily route sheets and communicates changes to drivers
- Enters reporting information on the computer as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have knowledge of food preparation and serving principles. Must have knowledge of food service equipment and correct food portioning.
Must know how to handle food in a safe and sanitary manner, and work in a neat and clean manner.
Must be able to work well with seniors and volunteers. Must be able to follow verbal instructions with little supervision.WORKING CONDITIONS:
At nutrition sites, exposure to cleaning and/or chemical solutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift/push 50 lbs.
- Must be able to walk.
- Must be able to carry, bend and reach.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability in order to cope with the physical, mental and emotional stress of the position.
TRAVEL:
Some travel may be required. A car may be required, with valid Illinois driver's license and proof of state-mandated insurance.

- working with food: 2 years (preferred)
- customer service or working with senior citizens: 2 years (preferred)
Education:
- High school or equivalent (preferred)
