- Conduct background research and analysis to inform strategic decisions or contribute to publications
- Support the team by writing background briefs or related materials
- Assist with project management and Division operations
- Participate in internal research team meetings and support meetings with external stakeholders
- Support internal communications and operation procedures
- Write and proofread blog posts or related products
- Other tasks as assigned
- The successful candidate will:
- Be enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate program in public policy, political science, economics, business, public affairs, or a related field
- Have a strong desire to engage and learn about one or more of the following topics: mobility from poverty, affordable housing, social financing and impact investing, evidence-based policymaking, neighborhood revitalization, equitable community and economic development, and local and federal policy and systems.
- Possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Have experience conducting primary and secondary research
- Have strong organizational skills
- Be detail-oriented
- Paid 10-week program designed to provide students interested in research, public policy issues, and organizational operations with rewarding and substantive work assignments that contribute to Urban's mission

The Opportunity:
The Research to Action Lab serves decision-makers in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors eager to advance social change. Our multidisciplinary team draws on the breadth and depth of Urban's economic and social policy expertise to design research-driven strategies, deliver tailored technical assistance and training, and curate effective convenings that infuse critical debates with evidence. Nimble and innovative, the Lab engages directly with policymakers and practitioners, providing strategic guidance to help navigate the most pressing policy and programmatic challenges and spark disruptive solutions tailored to meet the moment. Our team also works collaboratively with Urban scholars and external partners to design and manage evidence-based programs that leverage Urban's expertise and capacities to catalyze meaningful change for people and communities.
The Research to Action Lab summer intern will provide support to an interdisciplinary portfolio of projects that help advance evidence-based policymaking, particularly in the areas of mobility from poverty, effective place-based policies and programs, and housing affordability and stability, with an emphasis on racial equity.
