    And we're looking for a Facilities Control Engineer

    About the position:

    This position is a "hands-on" role, providing operational technical support to Research and Development Scientists and Engineers. The Controls Engineer will directly provide operational and engineering support for an R&D Facility and assist process engineers with starting up and commissioning process equipment. The position will help drive continuous improvement while resolving Facilities and process equipment issues in real time. This position will continuously support the operations of the facility, including troubleshooting and repair of electro/mechanical equipment and automated BMS (building management systems). There will be occasional on-call assignments.

    Responsibilities:

    • Documentation, design generation, integration, implementation, testing and on-site start-up of the process control solutions for the R&D areas. This person works closely with and mentors team members on recent software, hardware and system upgrades and improvements.
    • Work closely and train team members on recent software, hardware, and system upgrades and improvements to electro-mechanical devices.
    • Drive continuous improvement by implementing solutions and support project team objectives, identify the technologies to be used for new applications and improve existing applications.
    • Troubleshoot electrical schematics and have a working knowledge of instrumentation and calibration, troubleshoot and repair HVAC control components, flow meters, pneumatics, valves, tank controls and a wide variety of process control equipment.
    • Renovate, design, develop and implement control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and electrical system according to roll to roll pilot needs and new equipment installation needs.
    • Installation and repair of a wide variety of process control equipment, including a process coater, laminators, and environmental chambers.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of process equipment to achieve the equipment reliability performance goals, identify and solve problems, and repair equipment.
    • Timely support research projects and reduce equipment down time.
    • Perform troubleshooting of process equipment and prioritize repair requests.
    • Order parts, tools, and materials required for maintenance and help maintain a critical spare parts inventory.
    • Analyze the performance of facilities equipment.
    • Perform and supervise the maintenance and repair on building equipment and systems such as, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, and process plumbing.
    • Work safely in an environment containing hazardous (flammable) chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high and low pressure liquids/gases, steam and moving machinery.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Electronics, Electronics Engineering or Controls Technology.
    • Four or more years' experience in a similar role.
    • Experience working in controls engineering.
    • Knowledge of PID control theories and techniques, relay/ladder logic, VFDs, DCS Systems, PLC/HMI and SCADA software packages.
    • Familiarity with mechanical processes such as Applied Psychometrics, fan and pump laws, and principles of HVAC.
    • Knowledge of fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and system controls.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to contribute and meet project deadlines with minimum supervision.
    • Flexible and versatile to adapt to changes in scheduling.
    • Proficient in MS Office, SQL, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, AutoCAD Electrical, and developing SPC/FMEA and ISO procedures.
    • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing of process and facilities equipment with or without schematics.
    • Ability to research equipment via manuals, equipment vendors, and the internet.
    • Ability to detect problems, work in teams, work independently, and have flexibility.
    • Reliability, responsibility, and accuracy with an attention to details.
    • Must be able to work safely in a Process Lab environment.

    Benefits:

    The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
