Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Increase the academic performance of all students in Latin and History by creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Plan instruction consistent with the School's approved curriculum in Latin and the World Language Program.
  • Create a supportive learning environment for all students that encourage social interaction, active engagement in learning, and selfmotivation.
  • Differentiate instruction in mixed ability classrooms.
  • Diagnose, intervene, monitor, and adjust instruction.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data.
  • Work collaboratively with the world language and history team to advise, plan, and implement effective lessons and interventions.
  • Prepare for classes as assigned and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request.
  • Establish appropriate plans for substitute teachers.
  • Develop appropriate formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and assess student learning.
  • Provide regular feedback to students and parents, and uses assessment data to make instructional decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators to strengthen the Upper School curriculum.
  • Initiate, implement, and coordinate a variety of program components which will further enrich the School's World Language and History Program.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by administration.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong content knowledge in History, Latin language education, and World Civilizations, specifically premodern world history, including best teaching practices; advanced proficiency in Latin required
  • Ability to interpret data in order to improve student learning, and follow best practices
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability and desire to work with a diverse student body
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive professional relationships
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong degree of self
- direction and motivation

  • Energetic and enthusiastic
  • High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness
  • Capable of competently operating technology

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Latin, Humanities; Master's Degree preferred
  • 35 years' teaching experience
