First Shift Custodian - Lower Pottsgrove Elementary

REPORTS TO:
Custodial Supervisor


JOB SUMMARY:

Provide a safe, orderly, sanitary environment, conducive to learning, for all students and faculty.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide assistance with moving furnishings and supplies which are necessary to the function of the building.
  • Open the building daily, including but not limited to turning on lights, unlocking restrooms, and raising the flag.
  • Perform daily inspections around the perimeter of the building, including picking up litter, emptying trash cans, and checking for graffiti.
  • Assist with opening and repairing lockers as needed.
  • Assist with fire drills and evacuation procedures.
  • Receive packages and supplies and deliver to the appropriate location.
  • Respond to calls from the main office for cleanups, deliveries, and supply requests as needed.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance to the kitchen, café, locker rooms and stairwells daily; provide service to the kitchen staff during lunch period for spills, trash, and other requested duties.
  • Report all repairs which may affect safety and health to visitors, students, and staff to the Supervisor in a prompt manner.
  • Prepare for extra events at the school as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor and/or building Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent necessary

Experience in custodial work preferred

Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

FBI Criminal History Record

Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

Ability to work off of ladders, scaffolding and high lift devices

Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 50 lbs.

Ability to mostly walk and move about throughout the work environment


SENSORY ABILITIES:

Visual acuity

Auditory acuity


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Typical school building environment

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions


TEMPERAMENT:
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills

Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

Must possess leadership skills

Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment

Ability to operate various office equipment

Ability to read and understand materials safety data sheet

Ability to handle and dilute concentrated chemicals

Work Year: 260 Days / 8 hours per day
