To strengthen our growing team at ifo, we are seeking a Data Scientist at the postdoc level for up to six years, starting in June 2024 or as soon as possible.

The ideal candidate will contribute to our main research topics by conducting independent research using state-of-the-art machine learning and causal inference methods on unconventional data from various sources (such as firms, text, images, and administrative data) to answer policy-relevant economic questions.

Based in Munich, our institute is dedicated to the field of Big Data Economics.

We have a research data center (EBDC) that provides support and resources (legal, IT, RDM, etc.) to researchers, as well as several junior research groups focused on Big Data Economics.

Additionally, our research network CESifo has recently launched a research area on "Economics of Digitization" and a cluster on "Economic Research with Firm Data" to further develop economic research using unconventional data.

Our colleagues at LMU, including the economics department and newly established AI professorships, as well as a large group of data scientists at the statistics department, contribute to the growing community of Big Data researchers.

In this dynamic and well-equipped environment, the Data Scientist will play a crucial role.

They will initiate, conduct, and supervise Big Data research projects with other ifo researchers, junior research groups, and external partners from academia and industry, with support from ifo's infrastructure departments and executive board.
