Description

This position serves as the Unit Supervisor for the Great Lakes Watersheds Assessment, Restoration, and Management Section's (GLWARMS) Sediment and Aquatic Invasive Species Unit (SAISU).

This position supervises and directs the activities of staff in the SAISU to meet division and program goals; prepares annual unit work plans; approves timesheets; hires and disciplines staff; establishes performance objectives and conducts performance evaluations; plans, coordinates, oversees, and evaluates staff work for all unit work responsibilities; and serves on the GLWARMS management team.

The SAISU's primary responsibilities are to coordinate the Water Resources Division's (WRD) Contaminated Sediment Program and Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program.

These activities include, but are not limited to, providing monitoring and other technical support to the aquatic resource protection and restoration for watersheds located throughout Michigan; providing technical expertise and project management related to restoring aquatic sites impacted by contaminated sediments and AIS; and implementing the AIS State Management Plan in coordination with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

Position Description

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, biological sciences, resource management, sanitary science, environmental health, engineering, geology, or in geological, petroleum, or mining engineering.

Experience

Five years of professional experience in an engineering or scientific field carrying out geological and/or environmental activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources; working in an environmental protection program; or, enforcing environmental health or environmental protection laws, including three years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level, two years equivalent to the advanced (12) level, or one year equivalent to a 13-level specialist or manager.

The work location of this position will be Lansing, MI.

However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
