    POSITION: Early Headstart Specialist

    SALARY: $20.00, per hour DOE

    REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

    LOCATION: Headstart Omak, Washington

    Basic Functions: This position must function with considerable independence, reporting to and receiving assistance when needed from the Early Childhood Education Site Supervisor.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Training:

  • Requires an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field AND teaching experience in an early learning setting, (preferred); OR
  • CDA for infants and toddlers; AND 24 months teaching experience in an early learning setting.
  • OR Possible training plan for motivated applicants.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain a Food Handler's permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance (preferred).
  • Must have maintained a substance free lifestyle for the last year (1) and continue maintaining this lifestyle during employment, and be willing to sign and adhere to the Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and the Head Start's Healthy Lifestyle Policy in addition to submitting to program testing procedures.
  • Requires any transcripts/ proof of degree, any certifications, and two letters of reference upon applying.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood Education practices and developmental milestones.
  • Requires nine (9) months experience in interpreting and developing and implementing curriculum and education plans in a classroom setting.
  • Requires nine (9) months experience in recognizing that children have individual rates of development as well as individual interest, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Requires nine (9) months experience in interpreting and in the facilitation and implementation of observation, child's outcomes, assessments and individualization of children.
  • Requires that incumbent be mentally healthy to meet the needs of birth to three aged children and their families.
  • Requires ability to work with birth to three aged children and children with disabilities.
  • Requires ability and willingness to work overtime hours as needed for parent activities.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to speak publicly, and communicate in writing and oral form.
  • Requires ability to speak in public.
  • Requires the ability to function in indoors and outside environments.
  • Requires ability to function effectively in classroom and clients' household as well as outside play environments, engaged in work of a moderately active nature.
  • Requires ability to stand, walk and sit upright on a floor-level surface for extended periods of time and to lift, push and pull light to medium objects on an occasional basis.
  • Requires personal appearance, grooming, attitudes, and language patters that provide a suitable example to children.
  • Requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to project voice and communicate with staff in a classroom setting, in one-on-one conversations, and when providing training.
  • Requires visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, observe students perform assignments and observe moving objects and events.
  • Requires the ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull and move light weight work materials and supplies.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, multimedia, and other office equipment.
  • Requires the ability to work flexible and on-call hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as work dictates for parent engagement and support activities.
