    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    The Director of Career Services is a key player in the law school's overall delivery of services, including through student career counseling, cultivating and maintaining relationships with employers, spearheading and supporting various recruitment efforts, planning and facilitating career exploration programming, developing and updating resources, performing outreach, sourcing jobs, supporting career searches/readiness, and facilitating networking.

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Counsel prospective/admitted students, current students, and alumni in career matters for career options in law and law adjacent fields in all areas of law and employment settings.
    • Assist law students and alumni in pursuing internships, externships, clerkships, fellowships, and post-graduate employment positions - including individual efforts and assisting with departmental recruitment events.
    • Review application materials, conduct mock interviews, and otherwise assist students in their job searches/applications.
    • Conduct outreach to employers and maintain relationships with attorneys and legal employers with a goal to increase employment and facilitate networking opportunities for students and alumni.
    • Attend professional events to maintain law school visibility in the community and establish new contacts. (Requires some availability for night and weekend hours, and limited periodic travel.)
    • Facilitate student networking and professional identity development.
    • Coordinate or partner with outside bar associations and professional groups, and connect students to professional groups and specialty bars.
    • Create, organize, and coordinate career exploration programming- e.g. events and resources for career options in law and law adjacent fields across all practice areas and employment settings to promote/expand students' understanding of career options and opportunities and interaction with attorneys and prospective employers.
    • Contribute to maintaining and improving the contents of the careers database, website, and other mechanisms for promotion and communication.
    • Work collaboratively with other departments.
    • Perform other duties as necessary.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • J.D. required
    • 1 year of legal experience
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong communication skills
    • Ability to meet the needs of diverse student, staff, and faculty community
    • Knowledge of Portland legal job market
    • Ability to think creatively and independently
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Strong computer and technical skills to include experience with or aptitude to learn career services software by 12Twenty, videoconferencing tools such as Zoom, virtual event planning, google tools, and Microsoft Suite tools
    • Ability to work in person, on campus during traditional work hours at least four (4) days per week, with the ability to work up to one (1) day per week remotely under productive self-direction during traditional work hours
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Lewis & Clark Law School alumni
    • 2+ years working as an attorney or judicial law clerk
    • Experience working in legal recruiting
    • Knowledge of regional legal job market
    WORK SCHEDULE:
    • Full-time
    • Benefits eligible: Yes
    PAY RATE:
    • $70,000 to $80,000, depending on experience

    Background Check

    Eligibility to Work

    In order to comply with US Homeland Security Department regulations, all employees must complete an I-9 form in Workday prior to or no later than the first day of work and bring originals (no photocopies) of their supporting documentation to Human Resources no later than the 3rd business day of employment. Failure to have a completed I-9 form on file with the College will result in immediate termination of employment.
