    Description

    The Product Development Engineer, Textiles will design new, or improve existing, liquid based coating formulations that keep surfaces cleaner and fresher through the reduction of bioburden, odors and/or soils. This position will collaborate, under the direction of Senior Technical Manager, with R&D innovation teams, engineering groups and testing laboratories to develop technologies and protocols to assess the performance of designed surface treatments. This position will ensure successful commercialization of developed technologies by working with customers to reliably integrate coating technologies into end-use product applications.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Successfully develop and commercialize functionalized coating formulations that drive growth in key business segments.
    • Operate coating, mixing, drying equipment and analytical instrumentation to facilitate completion of critical laboratory experiments.
    • Maintain detailed, accurate records of all experimentation to ensure procedures and results are understood by colleagues and customers as well as to ensure potential marketing and patent claims can be supported.
    • Simultaneously advance multiple R&D projects in order to meet company innovation goals.
    • Strengthen company's intellectual property position by patenting formulated products and/or application process knowledge.
    • Publish technical papers and speak at trade conferences to increase company visibility/credibility.
    • Assist sales/marketing staff with technical presentations to customers in order to win new or maintain existing business.
    • Utilize existing industry standards and or design new methods to test performance of coatings to ensure they meet customer/market needs.
    • Interface with internal sales & marketing staff, customers and industry organizations to understand coating design and application requirements.
    • Monitor coating development progress for issues that would affect project schedule, scope and cost. Establish and implement plans to mitigate issues to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Master's degree in chemical engineering, Chemistry, Textiles Engineering, or other related field from four-year college or university and three to five years' non-woven or textile finishing development experience in an engineering role (process or product development, production support, research and development, or a combination thereof); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience with antimicrobial coatings and textile dyeing and finishing are highly desired.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Must be able to work independently without direct supervision; must leverage knowledge of product and process engineering to effectively integrate antimicrobial and odor control technologies into customer products. Must be able to analyze and interpret data from lab or scale up trials and based on this analysis, employee must decide if the application of the Microban product was successful and if not, the employee must develop and implement corrective action plans with customers. Knowledge of antimicrobial and/or odor control test standards is highly desired.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    Must be willing to travel (domestic and international) up to 15% of the time. Must be fluent in verbal and written English.
