JOB SUMMARY


Visitor Services Representatives are Part-Time, Non-Exempt para-professional assistants who provide support and maintenance to the welcome desk and museum store, its inventory and displays, and CDMOD volunteers and staff.

This position includes ensuring that the Museum's policies are upheld, and the memberships and admissions are handled in accordance with the Museum's policies and procedures.

This role assists with visitor interactions, ensures that visitors are safe and receive rapid first aid assistance if needed, and that visitors enjoy their experience at the Museum.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet guests and answers phones in a friendly manner.
  • Process admission fees, monitoring the capacity and guest flow.
  • Understand and clearly explain membership levels including selling and issuing memberships.
  • Learn the process for store transactions and inventory information, helping guests find merchandise.
  • Process all types of sales transactions accurately in POS systems.
  • Provide accurate closing drawer count and end of day transaction tallies.
  • Communicate with guests about their wants and preferences.
  • Provide support by labeling, recording, and providing accurate information related to store inventory.
  • Restock, unpack, check in merchandise & display arrangement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and attractive store environment.
  • Assist with training of new Visitor Services Representatives, provide support and encouragement to volunteers and docents.
  • Enforce CDMOD rules when necessary. Exercise good judgement on when to call in management assistance.
  • Always provide excellent guest service and diffuse issues with unhappy visitors or disagreements between visitors.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working special events outside of normal work hours.
  • Wear costumes, uniforms, and other special attire when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Museum Manager necessary for the Museum.
  • Provide immediate response for Incident Reports using appropriate procedures.
  • Practice safe methods for First Aid, Emergency Procedures, and Blood Borne Pathogens.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexible schedule to include some Holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Must have a positive, outgoing, and wellspoken personality and beable to clearly interact verbally with guests.
  • Must be responsible, dependable, patient, and courteous with guests and other coworkers.
  • Must be able to take direction and complete tasks to accomplish the Museum's goals without the need for managerial followup.
  • Must have professional appearance and grooming.
  • May be required to lift objects weighing more than 25 lbs.
  • Bilingual Preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Relevant training certifications in educational topics helpful.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Criminal, Civil background clearance.


PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional, interactive children's museum environment. This role operates primarily within the Lobby and Gift Shop areas but may require work within all three buildings.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work around exhibits and when necessary to operate a motor vehicle; vision and sight ability to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.

Frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards.

Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator and to operate tools and equipment.

Incumbents in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and inspect work sites.

The ability to lift 25 pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment; carry, push, and pull materials with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

May work up to 5 days per week; not to exceed 30 hours unless approved by the CEO or Museum Manager.
