This job will be performed at our main office, located in White River Junction, Vermont, 72 South Main Street.

Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm


The role of the Payroll Tax Specialist is to assist in managing, paying, and reconciling all local, DOL, DOR and Federal deposits and filings.

In addition, the Tax specialist will stay current and ensure compliance and accuracy of policies and procedures in relation to tax related changes and software platform updates (CYMA, Annkissam, MasterTax, etc.).

The Tax specialist along with the Tax Supervisor will provide interdepartmental guidance and support to the ARIS team when needed.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Set up individual Employers in payroll software (backup
- to level 2)

  • Assist with questions regarding employer account setups with level 2s
  • Set up each employer with their own FEIN (backup
- to level 2)

  • Provide customer service support to level 2s, with tax related questions.
  • Set up state specific accounts such as Local, Department of Labor, and/or Department of Revenue based upon State consumer(employer) is operating in.
  • File 941 quarterly with Schedule R and Schedule B
  • File Tax withholding reports quarterly (Department of Revenue)
  • Verify all WHT account info is entered into payroll software validating W2's are printed with correct info
  • File DOL wage contribution reports quarterly (Department of Labor)
  • Manage DOL rates for all employers and record in payroll software w/ acct info
  • Update payroll software with rate changes (upon receipt of acct info, and yearly as DOL rates employers based on activity of account)
  • Respond to State when they reach out regarding account information and/or filing.
  • File 940 FUTA returns with Schedule R annually
  • Department of Revenue and local tax W2 uploads as required by certain states and localities
  • Generate W2s to mail to employees
  • Deposit federal taxes semiweekly at the completion of each payroll cycle
  • Deposit State income taxes at the completion of each payroll cycle
  • Deposit FUTA tax when applicable
  • Mastertax and AnnKissam imports from CYMA

Qualifications and Skills Level:


  • Communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  • Maintain a professional/ respectful appearance and attitude and represent the Agency in such a manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of related tax, accounting, or payroll experience
  • High level of computer proficiency; payroll & timekeeping platforms, MS Office, Accounting Software.
  • Ability to work across multiple, sophisticated computer systems and synthesize information obtained within each platform.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills.
