Camp Funshine (ages 3-7) and Summer Squad (ages 8-16) have seasonal positions available for Pre and/or Post Camp Counselors. Pre-Camp hours are from 7:00am

  • 9:00pm and Post Camp are from 4:00pm
  • 6:00pm. If you work both Pre AND Post Camp, the rate of pay of $60 per day. If you work either Pre OR Post Camp the rate of pay is $30 per day. Summer camp runs from July 1st August 23rd with an additional bonus week from August 26th
  • 30th. At least 25 hours of training is required beginning in June. This is a seasonal position over the summer months with a potential to work in other part time positions with the YMCA in the fall.

A Summer Camp Pre and Post Counselor must be able to:

  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include arts and crafts, songs and games.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Ensure the general safety of the campers in their group.
  • Provide experiences for the campers that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
  • Communicate with parents about participant's experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers' safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Ensure that their area is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to physical games and activities, swimming, team building initiatives, ect.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field.
  • First Aid and CPR Certified Preferred
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Strong Organizational skills.
  • Must have completed at least 1 year of college
  • Must provide an up to date Immunization Record that must include record of MMR Vaccination.
  • Ability to pass a background check and medical exams
