The Coordinator of Youth Development will provide consistent support for Teen Internships, ClimaTeens, and Youth Advisory Council programming at the Aquarium to help youth develop positive work habits and skills.

The job includes coaching/mentoring and consistent communication to develop positive relationships with youth involved in these programs. The coordinator is also responsible for administrative tasks to support planning, implementation, and documentation of programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate formal training process for Teen Interns in accordance with best interpretive practices.
  • Train and supervise ClimaTeens at public events and summits (i.e.
World Ocean Day).

  • Maintain a database for all youth development participants and applicants, as well as a collection of media including photos and videos.
  • Maintain records of program statistics, testimonials, published media (video, audio, and print) and help with analysis of data.
  • Coordinate logistics, create lesson plans, and lead highquality, interactive teen meetings during the academic year (ClimaTeens) and summer (suite of teen professional development courses), and occasional special events (environmental stewardship trips, celebrations).
  • Coordinate and attend recruiting events for Teen Intern and ClimaTeens applicants.
  • Plan logistics for space and organize processes to facilitate the interview processes and hiring procedures for summer and academic year programs.
  • Review, revise, and implement systems to recognize positive work accomplishments of Teen Interns. This includes planning annual recognition events and seasonal awards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

_ Minimum Training and Experience_

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 13 years of experience working with adolescent youth (ages 13 through 18).
  • Strong collaborator with demonstrated organization and mentoring skills.
  • Must have a flexible management style with a development focused approach.
  • Strong communication skills for teen audiences, in both oneonone and group formats; experience with newsletters or similar medium a plus.
  • Must pass a CORI/SORI background check.
  • Experience electronically managing large sets of data.

_ Preferred Qualifications_

  • Knowledge of adolescent development and/or educational theory.
  • Experience communicating with diverse audiences about topics related to teen professional development.
  • Experience supervising interns or training staff.
  • Fluency in a language other than English.
  • First Aid, CPR or higher lifesaving certification.
  • Interest in the mission of the New England Aquarium.
