Structural Engineer to join their dynamic
Property & Buildings team in
Los Angeles, CA.
Performs structural engineering work, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, relating to the design of new and existing structures.
Your Impact
- Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, lightframe wood, and mass timber structures for residential, institutional, and commercial projects.
- Develop structural engineering solutions to facilitate the reuse of existing building structures though structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments.
- Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of endusers, while also utilizing futureready solutions with structural engineering design standards.
- Contribute to project coordination through remote/inperson meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site notebooks/logs.
- Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.

- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to midlevel risk mitigation activities.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decisionmaking regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Detailed understanding of seismic design procedures, ductility, and mechanics of different building materials.
- Basic knowledge of linear and nonlinear finite element analysis and performancebased design.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge with process and concepts for sustainability, and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
- Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and nonengineering audience.
- Effective selfleadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with disciplinespecific design software (i.e., ETABS, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, SAP, Perform3D, spSlab, spColumn, VisualAnalysis, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.).
