    Armed Security Officer - San Antonio, United States - Christus Health

    Summary:

    Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officer'sduties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity,providing security for patients, Associates and visitors,protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets and premisesas assigned. The Armed Security Officer is responsible forresponding to all emergency codes, internal/external disasterevents as needed and/or requested, conducting preliminaryinvestigations of reported incidents, and performing other securityrelated tasks as directed by a security supervisor/and or Manager.The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and beable to rotate between facilities including travel whenevernecessary. CHRISTUS Approved uniforms must be worn in accordancewith dress code requirements.

    Responsibilities:


    • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.

    • Conducts frequent security patrols of thefacilities and grounds as assigned.

    • Identifies andreports trends related to security issues. Recommendsactions.

    • Takes initial information for an incidentreport, uses proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, notes only thefacts, leaving out personal opinions and submits report in a timelymanner (no later than the end of assigned shift).

    •Responds promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisor,telephone, pass-on, e-mail, radio, cell phone and othercorrespondence in a courteous and expeditious manner.

    •Responds to the collection, inventory and return of lost and founditems, patient valuables, medication and personal propertyaccording to policy.

    • Enforces all rules, regulations,policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and the laws of thestate in which CHRISTUS is doing business.

    • Controlsand enforces facility parking through the use of patrols, violationwarning citations, towing, booting and explanation of rules asapplicable.

    • Assists clinical/non-clinical Associateswith combative patients or visitors.

    • Demonstratescompetence to perform assigned client care responsibilities in away that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of personsserved by the department.

    • Demonstrates proficiencyand knowledge in the operation of the Attendant Console, PagingSystem, security radio/dispatch system, operations of the DigitalVideo Recorder (NVR) security monitors (CCTV) and the generaloverhead paging system.

    • Must be proficient with theuse of a PC to generate electronic daily activity security reports,incident reports, emails and other applicable electroniccorrespondence during the performance of duties.

    •Promotes a safe environment by reporting safety hazards observed(broken water/sprinkler lines, burned out internal/externallighting, smoke/gas odors, tripping hazards, etc) during theperformance of security rounds.

    • Appropriately adaptsassigned client assessment, treatment and/or care methods toaccommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and otherdevelopmental needs of each person served.

    •Demonstrated competence with hand gun, hand cuffs, baton,non-crisis intervention certification and two-way radios.

    • Frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionallycharged situations.

    • Occasional exposure to hazardousconditions such as fires, chemical spills, and flooding.

    • Frequent exposure to heat and cold from external weatherconditions.

    • Long periods of walking, standing,stooping, and lifting.

    • Must be physically fit andable to walk all areas of the facilities and grounds, to restrainthose who need restraint and be able to assist nursing staff withlifting patients of all sizes.

    • Performs other dutiesas assigned.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma or its equivalentrequired.
    • Must be mentally alert at alltimes
    • Must have excellent written andverbal communication skills
    • Must be ableto make immediate decisions with regard to laws, policies andprocedures.
    • Must be able to handlemultiple tasks and prioritize
    • Must be able tohandle personal stress and possibleviolence
    • Minimum two (2) years of armedsecurity experience (may substituted by Honorable Military Service)preferred.
    • Law enforcement experiencepreferred.
    • Healthcare security experiencepreferred.
    • Active Level 3 Certification(Texas) required.
    • For positions in thestate of Texas, an active level three security officer commissionwith the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau(TDPSPSB) is required.
    • New hires in Texaswho have completed the security commission course with (TDPSPSB)must obtain their security commission prior to date ofhire.
    • New hires in New Mexico who havecompleted the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Boardlevel three training requirements must be eligible to process andobtain their security commission prior to date ofhire.
    • New hires in Louisiana may not weartheir weapon on duty until they have completed 40 hours oftraining, and the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security has issued aletter of authorization to carry a CHRISTUS Health Securityassigned weapon while on duty to theofficer.
    • Verbal De-escalation trainingmust be completed within 60 days ofhire.
    • Must obtain Basic Life Support(BLS) within 60 days of hire from the American HeartAssociation.
    • Expandable Baton training,defensive tactics training, firearms training, weaponqualification, and firearms retention training must be completedprior to letter of authorization to carry isissued.
    • IAHSS Basic SecurityCertification must be completed within one year of full-timeemployment.
    • Successful completion of allpre-employment and post offer assessments to include the MinnesotaMultiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2-RF-PCIR); theCalifornia Psychological Inventory (CPI); the Police and PublicSafety Selection Report (PPSSR); the Personal Experience Inventory(PEI) and a clinical interview by a third personalpsychologist.
    • Will be required to takerandom drug test screening.
    • ValidDrivers' license
    • The following FEMAEmergency Management Institute Courses must be completed (online orin seat): IS – 100. c, IS – 200. b, and IS – 230.d.
