Description

Position Information:


Arlington County's Department of Human services Aging & Disability program is seeking a Nutritionist to join their Agency on Aging Team.

This position will ensure that the Home Delivered Meals Program, Meals on Wheels (MOW) and the Congregate Nutrition Programs (Social 60+ Cafés at 3 55+ Centers) are delivered as stipulated in the applicable state service standards and federal regulations.

Specific duties include:

  • Coordinating the required assessment/reassessment for the Home Delivered Meals program;
  • Analyzing nutritional needs of program participants and developing dietary plans;
  • Participating in quarterly menu planning with the contracted meal provider and analyzing proposed menus compliance to required nutritional standards;
  • Providing regular nutrition education for AAA programs and oneonone nutrition counseling for participants determined to be high nutrition risk; and
  • Performing other related duties as required or as directed by Supervisor.

Selection Criteria:


Minimums:


  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field;
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN); and
  • Some experience as a nutritionist or dietician.
  • Master's Degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field;
  • Post-Master's degree experience including at least one year providing services to older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers and their families
  • Some experience or specialized training in gerontology or geriatrics;
  • Some experience with the planning and supervision of food and nutrition services in home and communitybased or facilitybased settings; and
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Amharic, or Vietnamese.

Special Requirements:


Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence.

The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.

Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.


A background check is required and may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit check and may require signing a release authorizing the County to obtain this information.

The position will require travel around Arlington County.

Applicant must possess or obtain by the time the appointment a valid Driver's license from the applicant's place of resident or be willing to use alternative modes of transportation.

A pre-hire background check and State of Virginia Child Welfare and Neglect Central Registry will be required.


Employment restrictions:
To ensure that dual relationships are avoided and that employees who are also clients do not relate to their service provider as co-professionals, employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients:

  • You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).
  • At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.

Additional Information:

The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.


Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, including the core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with limited flexibility. Occasional evening and weekend outreach work may be required.
