Basic Function

Example Of Duties

  • Maintains and modifies departmental computer software systems
  • Writes, debugs, and optimizes complex SQL (Structured Query Language) and stored procedures in SQL Server Management Studio software
  • Designs and programs departmental utility programs, macros, data queries and reports
  • Serves as backup support for the GIRO′s HASTUS scheduling module
  • Compiles and analyzes transit surveillance data for use in developing and updating departmental automated reports regarding Transit Operations
  • Provides ongoing support on data extractions and loading processes
  • Prepares departmental computer systems documentation and reports, including charts, flowcharts, diagrams, and code comments
  • Coordinates with and assists Information Technology Systems department staff in developing and modifying client/server and personal computer programs for departmental use
  • Works with the infrastructure teams to upgrade SQL server
  • Identifies, documents, and corrects performance problems in data files or other data sources
  • Evaluates data management procedures and recommends system improvements
  • Generates automated reports using client/server and personal computers
  • Conducts special studies/research projects as assigned
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment


A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field

Experience

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions
  • May work overtime as required

Knowledge:


  • Computer programming languages, such as Java, C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, and SQL
  • Data processing terminology and acronyms
  • Graphic user interface standards
  • Data communications
  • Database management systems and database objects, such as stored procedure, view and tables
  • Client/server enterprise network

Skills:


  • Designing data queries and useroriented reports
  • Analyzing situations and identifying problems
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Preparing reports and correspondence
  • Preparing user and systems documentation to industry standards
  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Using various input devices for extracting and utilizing data
