What You Will Do

To enhance the operation of Sharp HealthCare as a whole and each entity within Sharp HealthCare by assisting customers to analyze information in order to make informed decisions consistent with the corporate strategic plan.

To participate as a consultant and trainer to staff, Sharp HealthCare management, physicians and other customers of this department. To ensure the ongoing evaluation of clinical outcomes for Sharp HealthCare.


Required Qualifications

  • 3 Years clinical experience in nursing or other healthcare related specialty with additional experience in data collection, analysis, quality assurance, or computer programming.

Other Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field, such as Nursing, or Health Care Administration (relevant experience in excess of three years may substitute for education).

Essential Functions

  • Analysis Skills
Analyzes and interprets data obtained from TSI, Oracle, IDX, PATS and other databases.
Evaluates the integrity/accuracy of data and addresses identified problems.
Communicates updates about data quality and availability regularly.
Identifies cost-savings opportunities and reports projects' time allocation as needed.
Analyzes data to answer questions and facilitate performance improvement.

Includes a basic understanding of statistical analysis and the ability to impart an explanation of the data in this context.


  • Communication
Develops reports to effectively communicate findings
Utilizes full range of software tools to optimize reporting and dissemination of data and results.
Highly skilled in graphic rendition of information.
Able to professionally deliver results in writing or verbally.
Presentation of information is clear, concise, and tailored to the level of the user.
Data are complete and accurate with a keen attention to detail.

  • Consultation

Acts as an in-house clinical and technical consultant for current and proposed needs for data and information to guide performance improvement.

Assists individuals within the system in aggregation and analysis including data cleanup.
Advise clients on methods of data collection and database design to maximize data integrity.
Provides quality assessment, measurement and evaluation of data.
Advises on the design and construction of tools for the collection of clinical data.

  • Educator skills
Assists in training of designated users in clinical database functions in order to maximize user effectiveness.
Reviews the need for refresher or update training at least annually and arranges or performs training as needed.

Provide ad hoc training and serve as a resource for question on the use of data tools at Sharp Healthcare.

Analyzes user needs/requirements through on-site visits, review of current systems capabilities, and ensures attainment of optimal functionality and user satisfaction.

Works collaboratively with customers on data definitions, and reporting strategies.

Engages in professional development including participating in training on use of new tools available to query current and new data sources.


  • Technical skills
Designs and manages databases including Microsoft Access and PATS.
Writes queries, analyzes and reports out of TSI, Midas, Clinicomp, EMStat, and SQL Server.

Stays abreast of new technologies in order to optimize data analysis and reporting including any new databases acquired by Sharp Healthcare.


Results measured by demonstrated expertise in:
TSI; Midas; Clinicomp; EMStat; SQL Server (warehouse); PATS; MEDai.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer skills include intermediate to advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Must have skills in analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to effectively work with Sharp management, staff, physicians, and others; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to achieve results for the organization with and through people; to practice good time management, and to demonstrate good leadership skills.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate data analysis for clinical decisionmaking, research, and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of healthcare environment; IS principles and practices; the impact of clinical data on the legal, ethical, managerial, and organizational principles and standards for acute general hospitals and integrated health systems; basic research methodology.
