The
Scholarly Communications Librarian is responsible for academic programming, instruction, services, and resources related to OER (Open Educational Resources), open access (OA), and the scholarly information lifecycle.

This position works both independently and collaboratively with partners throughout the institution to provide excellent library services related to OER and open access.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian co-leads the University Open Education Resources (OER) Initiative and manages the institution's scholarly open access repository.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate library services related to Open Educational Resources (OER), open access, open repositories, scholarly communication, and digital scholarship.
  • Actively participate in regional, national, and international communities of practice around scholarly communication.
  • Colead a dynamic, crossdepartmental partnership supporting our OER initiative, and consulting with faculty on discovering and utilizing excellent curricular materials and library learning resources to enhance student learning.
  • Provide consultation and support to faculty who want to incorporate library resources in the curriculum.
  • Work with faculty, students, and other librarians to develop, maintain, and raise awareness of open access content in the institutions' open access scholarly repository.
  • Support student and faculty digital scholarship.
  • Explore grant opportunities.
  • Keeps current on trends in scholarly communications and related areas, including but not limited to emerging technologies.
  • Assists the campus community with reference/citation management software (i.e., Zotero).
  • Maintain appropriate statistics regularly and meet benchmarks for areas.
  • Participate in department and Universitywide committees, events, and professional organizations.
  • Participates regularly in reference services (online and inperson), including occasional evening reference desk shifts.
  • Designs, develops, and produces scholarly communications related content in various print and online formats including, but not limited to, Libguides, tutorials, and training materials.
  • Assists the campus community with bibliometrics and research/scholarly impact.
  • Engages in outreach activities related to the library and/or scholarly communications to the campus community.
  • Participates in liaison duties including outreach and collection development to assigned academic departments.
  • Serves on the library's operational teams and other collaborative groups.
  • Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to department and library needs.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications**:

  • Master's degree in library or information science from an ALAaccredited program (or equivalent credential) at the time of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly communication practices, communities, and resources as shown in previous experience or coursework.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with others.

Preferred:


  • Experience in an academic library or academic setting.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of digital collections including concepts and tools.
