This position is part of the Security and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia. Responsibilities Receives input and updated training regarding the credentialing inspection processes. Accurately records findings on approved forms and enters information in the appropriate electronic databases. Receives and records samples of returned secure credentials suspected to be defective. Monitors and initiates the destruction and/or the rejection of security credentials. Reports discrepancies and identifies failed production materials and customer concerns to Lead.Verifies quality of secure credentials using sampling inspection techniques, monitors quality of the product, looking for defects and implements more intensive product inspections.
Receives, monitors and records manufacturing floor waste from Federal Agencies for inspection.Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the Document Inspection Technician, PU , you must meet the following requirements:
Applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience at the PU-5 grade level (or equivalent) level or higher.
Examples of specialized experience includes:
Interpreting and applying product specifications, technical data, regulations, and other guideline materials to interpret and classify secure credential defects; inspecting equipment and tools, including barcode equipment; visually inspecting secure credentials for defects; applying basic math to perform measurements and distinguish colors; entering data in an electronic database to record/track findings accurately; experience working in a production environment and/or quality control environment.
OR 1 full year of graduate level education; OR Superior academic achievement; OR a combination of education and experience. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the PU-7 grade level.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (05/15/2024) to be considered.Education Are you using your education to qualify? Background Investigation:
For a Secret Clearance:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance.
To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance.This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance.
The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process.
The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.Schedule A (Disability Appointment):
Documentation of eligibility for employment under Schedule A can be obtained from a licensed medical professional (e.g., a physician or other medical professional certified by a state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S.

The work is mostly sedentary. Moderate physical effort is required in lifting and moving cartons of secure credentials.
Work Environment:
The work is performed in an open-office-like environment. Incumbent is required to remain in the work area, except for prescribed breaks.
