JOB OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the direct provision of respite services.

Must effectively contribute to the attainment of Family and Agency objectives, and effectively implement services in a manner consistent with the overall mission of the Therapeutic Respite program.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

AccessPoint RI has assigned the following roles and responsibilities for each of the service components of the Respite program:

  • Participate and attest to the completion of Agency-provided training on employee responsibilities.
  • Implement the child's Respite Service and Safety Plan in the home and community settings as directed in the document and as supervised by the family.
  • Maintain active communication with family supervisor
  • Assure proper incidence reporting.
  • Protect the health and safety of child, family and self.
  • Be respectful of the personal property of the child and family.
  • Dress in proper attire in accordance with agency policy and as appropriate for the provision of Therapeutic Respite services
  • Obtain specific permission from family supervisor prior to transporting the child.
  • Be knowledgeable and comply with DCYF regulations regarding the mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Agree to maintain confidentiality for all DHS beneficiaries or clients in accordance with all State and Federal laws and sign an Acknowledgement of Confidentiality.
  • Refrain from tasks not delineated in the Respite Service and Safety Plan (i.e. housekeeping, cooking, taking responsibility for monitoring and/or caring for other children or household member)
  • Notify family and Respite Coordinator immediately when unable to fulfill previously scheduled services.
  • Report status of the child to family supervisor or designee after each shift.
  • Complete daily documentation providing overview and summary of services.
  • Submit daily documentation with time sheets.
  • Bring child specific concerns directly to the family supervisor.
  • Direct job concerns first to the family supervisor, then to Respite Treatment Coordinator in cases of nonresolution.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Participate in all mandatory job trainings.
  • Accurately document hours on Respite time sheet
  • Submit respite timesheets on scheduled dates as indicated by Agency financial department.
  • Alert Respite Treatment Coordinator of any request for Therapeutic Services that will cause the Respite worker to accumulate more than 40 hours weekly in any combination of work hours in any combination of AccessPoint RI employment (i.e. HBTS and Therapeutic Respite)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
- high school diploma or equivalent;
- proficiency using digital devices and operating syatems
- successfully pass BCI and CANTS screenings;
- have no legal obligations to support the child, nor is a member of the child's household;
- have a valid driver's license,
- access to an insured motor vehicle if transportation is required in the service agreement and a good driving record.


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral formats.
  • Ability to read, comprehend policies and instructions, and use varying degrees of independent judgment and discretion.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Lifting and carrying 100 pounds with two people
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds independently
  • Standing/bending 50% of shift
  • Pushing/pulling 20% of shift
  • Ability to carry out NCI techniques and holds

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

Varies by needs of the individual child.
